Establishment of Commission to distinguish between legal and illegal taxes paid by traders and transporters

2009/04/27:The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (represented by the Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan—EPAA) Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Public Works held a meeting on Monday, 27 April 2009 at the ACCI to discuss illegal taxes and briberies facing traders and transporters. The main purpose of the meeting was to identify those hotspots (customs points, checkpoints, municipalities, etc.) that the traders
and transporters complain about.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided that a board comprising of representatives from relevant ministries and institutions would be set up under the supervision of the National Economic Commission of the Lower house to identify the hotspots. The board will also distinguish between legal and illegal taxes currently paid by the traders and transporters and inform the leadership of their relevant ministries and institutions to take proper decisions.
